Food / Prescription / Medical Transportation Assistance
HAAM provides direct assistance for short-term food needs, prescriptions, and medical transportation. If any of these would be helpful, please fill out the corresponding request form below:
Health Insurance
Foundation Communities (foundcom.org) can help determine whether your baby can be added to your insurance plan or guide you through the process of applying for CHIP/Medicaid.It’s important to schedule an appointment within 30-days from your baby’s birth to determine enrollment eligibility. Use this link to get scheduled.
If you have insurance through an employer, contact your Human Resources department for information on adding your baby to your plan.
Texas Pregnancy Medicaid/CHIP provides health coverage to lower income pregnant women during pregnancy and up to 12 months postpartum. To apply for Medicaid/CHIP, you must be a Texas resident and have no other health insurance.
Public Benefits
Central Texas Food Bank (centraltexasfoodbank.org) offers assistance with applying for SNAP benefits (food stamps) as well as free food delivery for families with young children. Call 512-684-2550 for more information.
Foundation Communities (foundcom.org) provides help with applying for SNAP benefits and can guide you through any issues you may have with an existing SNAP application. Call 737-249-6394 for more information.
WIC (Women, Infants and Children) is a nutrition program for pregnant, breastfeeding women and families with children younger than 5. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have had a baby within the last 6 months you may qualify for support. Call 512-972-4942 or email WIChelp@austintexas.gov to apply.
Parental Support
Partners in Parenting (pipaustin.org) supports all of Austin’s new parents.
Mama Sana Vibrant Woman (msvwatx.org) offers support for pregnant and postpartum parents of color.
Any Baby Can (anybabycan.org) offers programs to help families create stability and addresses physical, developmental and emotional well-being.
Postpartum.net (postpartum.net/get-help) provides a variety of information and resources for new parents including a helpline, peer mentorship, and support groups.
Hand to Hold (handtohold.org) runs support groups for parents of NICU/medically complex babies, as well as bereaved parents.
YMCA benefits include Kid’s Play (austinymca.org/kids-play). This complimentary program offers on-site child care for YMCA members, while parents work out. For more info on HAAM’s discounted fitness program at the YMCA, go to https://www.myhaam.org/fitness
There are also a TON of parent groups! Check out austinbabyguru.com/austin-moms-groups for some ideas. You can also Google “parent support groups” and see what you find.
Baby Supplies
Austin Diaper Bank (austindiapers.org) can help provide diapers for families in need
Mother’s Milk Bank Austin (milkbank.org) can help provide donor human milk for babies in need AND is a great place to get involved if you are a breastfeeding mom and have milk to spare
Resale shops or Facebook/Nextdoor Buy Nothing Groups (buynothingproject.org) can be a great place to find gently used items for babies and children.
