Under the Rock presents Paul McDonald and Jack Barksdale

Paul McDonald’s voice is immediately recognizable and impossible to ignore. Often compared to legends like Rod Stewart and Bob Dylan, the poetic story-driven narratives and deeply catchy hooks in his music are delivered by a raspy yet refined voice reminiscent of another era that demands to be heard right now. He pulls off the rare feat of being a poet, visual artist, songwriter, adamant performer, and a powerful vocalist. Paul’s hope is to spread peace, love, and unity through his music. Connection & community through song.

Jack Barksdale has been performing professionally half his life, making him a veteran singer-songwriter at 17! Described as an “old soul,” he writes songs that connect with audiences while giving glimpses of his past and reflections on our future. Inspired by a range of legendary folk, rock, and blues legends, he has shared the stage with such icons as Wyonna Judd, Ray While Hubbard and Hayes Carll. This TX artist is on his way to stardom — but for now, lets enjoy him making a stopover on “Under."

Under The Rock is an innovative new series showcasing acoustic performances from top-level local artists. Facilitated by Dr. Aaron Rochlen, a Professor, Psychologist, & connected music guy, each concert features lyrical discussions and ideas for how audience member can learn, reflect, and relate from the listening experience. An award-winning presenter, “Doc Rock” frequently uses music in his courses & clinical work.

A dynamic performer out of Georgia,Ava Connell,is an artist on the rise — and a busy one, playing over 100 shows annually. Drawing comparisons to Jewel, Miranda Lambert, and Avril Lavigne - her voice is full of raw emotion. Sweeney Todd at the Georgetown Palace Theatre

A legendary tale of revenge, Sweeney Todd uses his trade as barber (along with his straight razor) to avenge his wife’s death and his wrongful imprisonment. He partners with the local baker to boost her business while hiding his crimes. It’s a twisted tale of two wayward souls.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street hits the historic Springer stage Oct. 4-Nov. 3.

Reserve your seats if you dare! getpalacetickets.com

We would also like to introduce our nonprofit partner for Sweeney Todd, Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM). They provide access to affordable healthcare for the Austin area’s low-income working musicians, with a focus on prevention and wellness. They are expanding into Williamson County and thought what better way to introduce them through the Georgetown Palace Theatre’s nonprofit partner program. HAAM - Health Alliance for Austin Musicians has helped musicians, DJs, and music teachers across Travis and surrounding counties access over $191 million in healthcare services since they began in 2005. Thank you for being a great community partner.

Under The Rock presents Deer Fellow & Caroline Hale

  • Captain Quack's Soundspace (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Deer Fellow is a massive talent, a unique indie pop/folk duo with “comforting yet bold musicality.” Austin-based bandmates Matt Salois (guitar, vocals) and Alyssa Kelly (violin, vocals, keys) have built a cross-genre sound that “stirs hearts with each carefully crafted note.” Their lyrics are deep, meaningful, yet catchy and relatable. As cited in East Side, “Their genres range from contemporary indie-rock, to jazz, soul, and American standards, but the resulting mélange makes sense once the sound hits the ears.” This unique duo is without question – set to “Go Far and Under.”

Caroline Hale is an Austin-based singer/songwriter and recent graduate of the University of Texas! While moving from the 40 acres to the spotlight at a young age, she is off to a scorching fast start - building a loyal following and playing some of the most well-known venues in town (and beyond). Her songs range from thought-provoking and poetic (e.g., “We Both Do”) to crowd thumping dance songs (e.g., “Frankly Speaking (I’m done)). One for introspection and connecting her experience (and others) to her music, Caroline is set for a meaningful ride “Down Under” - The Rock.

Under The Rock presents Trish & Darin Murphy

Trish and Darin Murphy were raised in a musical family and are now long-standing legends and prime contributors in the the Austin Music scene. The two originally formed the band "Trish & Darin,” one of the biggest-drawing acts in their hometown of Houston during the 90s. Since then, Trish has recorded three solo albums and toured nationally and internationally, including being a part of the Lilith Fair and Mountain Stage and World Cafe. In Austin, Trish is well known for her role in the amazingly popular band 70s/80’s tribute band, SKYROCKET! Also a proud SKYROCKET! member, brother Darin has several solo releases and has played alongside such icons as Todd Rundgren, Christopher Cross and many others. Impressively, his vocal and acting chops won him a job on Broadway, portraying John Lennon in the musical “Lennon.” Recently, Darin has taken over the lead singing role for HeartByrne, the nationally touring Talking Heads tribute band. During this special Under event, Trish and Darin will play (and discuss) a combination of covers and originals that have meaning in their lives, both personally and professionally.
