She is known for her quick wit, clever lyrics, and quirky style as well as poignant ballads. Oh, and hats. One of seven children, Kate was born and raised in Savannah, GA. As a girl, she sang in church choir. At age 48, she started singing backup vocals for Austin musicians. At age 50, Kate wrote her first song. That gained her entry into a weekly song game with some local luminaries. After 7 years in song games, she's now written 400+ songs. In December 2019, with the support and encouragement of her many friends in the Austin music community, Kate had awake brain surgery that successfully addressed symptoms of cervical dystonia, an incurable neuromuscular condition she's lived with for 35 years.
