I am a musician/singer, songwriter who has been playing in Austin since 2001. I have been performing as a drummer in town with a band called Desilu. In the past year I decided to work on my songwriting more, and perform around town solo! I have one release of a side project collaboration called Easyheart, and will be releasing a solo ep soon. Austin has always been a great outlet for creativity and I love to call it home.

Past playground for Stevie Ray Vaughan & other music legends still thriving after nearly 40 years. Established in 1975 by the late Clifford Antone, Antone’s is an iconic blues venue located in downtown Austin. Over the past 40 years, Antone’s has brought Austin a variety of blues and musicians from across the country including B.B. In 2015, the historic brand was restored and a new team brought the iconic venue back to the downtown Austin landscape with a renewed focus on once again making Antone’s the “Home of the Blues.”

In Austin, Texas, Bob Appel found live music brought back to the basics, on a small stage with a small audience. Inspired by Hank Williams, Faron Young, Ray Price, Patsy Cline, Jim Reeves, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Buck Owens, and Wynn Stewart, after years of watching from a seat, Bob Appel stands up every day and night -- at dance halls, festivals, markets, opry shows, honky tonks, beer joints, and bars -- carrying the musical traditions of times gone by to times yet to come.

Austin's Royal Forest are not big believers in static sound, though they do appreciate the sound of static. Experimental across media---using analog tape loops in recordings and live at shows, for example---the band strives to reinvent their songs in new ways. Lately this experimentation manifests itself in field recordings. Royal Forest has made songs in a single-prop airplane above the Texas hill country, inside a WWII submarine in Galveston, and in a lightning storm among the Monahans sand dunes. Not content to be labeled a studio band or live act, the band pushes the limits of composition, using whim and on-the-fly audio manipulation as songwriting tools. Experimentation is their evolutionary engine. Lately this experimentation manifests itself in field recordings. Currently Joe is playing solo gigs on both piano and guitar, performing jazz/swing/blues with the Judith Miller Band, and working on his next Americana release.

J.R. Reed Music Company in downtown Austin was the place to be in 1960s Austin. Although Patty Finney started playing piano long before she got her own piano in the mid-60s - J.R. Reed supplied the piano, the sheet music, the piano contests and her first 45-rpm single record - 'When A Man Loves A Woman' by Percy Sledge. She went in to J.R. Reeds to purchase 'Red Rubber Ball' by the Cyrkle, but couldn't think of the name or anything more than it was a love song and walked out with Sledge's tune. She liked it. She became a fan of Mike Nesmith because of his musicianship and even took his name for years as a child. She scribbled 'Mike' on one of her other favorite 45-rpm records, 'Mona Lisa' by Nat King Cole.

ARRIVAL OF AUTUMN started as a band with a mission to play music without compromise and carve their way through the music scene on their own terms. The seeds of the band that would become Greyfeather were planted in the early 2000s through a shared deep and abiding love of music and a belief in the power of music to convey emotion in a way that no other artistic medium can. Although it has been a long time in the works, through various hardships, and across many years and thousands of miles, things have finally come together, and Greyfeather's self-titled debut album was released on February 10, 2017.

Now close to 15-years into a career where everything was earned and nothing was taken for granted, INCITE bridges the gap between multiple crowds across various metal sub-genres. As renegade disciples of trailblazing architects like Pantera, Slayer, Sepultura, and Machine Head, INCITE raise the torch for trend-killing and hipster-smashing metal. INCITE is as much a part of the fabric of the style championed by Lamb Of God as the surge of newer bands like Power Trip. INCITE perfected their signature brand of extreme sounds playing shows with DevilDriver, Crowbar, Brujeria, Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy, and Six Feet Under. This is a band who can open for Gorgoroth one night and Cancer Bats the next, converting true-believers out of people who grew up on Deftones or Immortal. The band’s fifth album, Built to Destroy, is a visceral, urgent, voracious distillation of modern metal, with reverence for the past, produced by Steve Evetts (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Suicide Silence) and mastered by Zeuss (Rob Zombie, Hatebreed).

Both ancient and modern cultures rely heavily on rituals. From religious proceedings that date back millennia to daily 21st century routines such as checking social media, humanity gravitates towards ritualistic behavior for the appearance of order and a semblance of control over life’s chaos. Perhaps more than any other artform, ceremonious behavior defines heavy metal. Thousands of fans worship at the altar of a speaker or congregate in person for the sermon of a live show.

Born in northwest Ohio, Corey Baum became infatuated with Appalachian folk culture at a young age after multiple trips into the appalachian region. This interest in folk, blues and country continued to develop and take hold as did his interest in songwriting as he found a voice within these styles. Ohio's harsh winters and crumbling economy pushed him south, relocating to Austin, Tx. Over the last decade, Corey, Croy to his friends, has been developing his midwestern take on country and folk music. As a songwriter and singer, he can be heard fronting his country band Croy and the Boys and his more light hearted garage rock project DUMB.

Blood is a jazz punk band from Austin, Texas that began in Tim O'Brien's Hyde Park bedroom in the Winter of 2017. The project has since expanded into a five piece jazz punk ensemble. At times the band sounds like the Talking Heads fronted by a murderous queer Black Francis. In other moments it sounds like Ian Curtis convinced that he sounds like Dionne Warwick; a crooning epileptic in a balladeer's ballgown. In a more general sense, the members of Blood have been brought together by a mutual instinct to curate a perverse love affair between noise and pop music.

In 2014, Shawnee launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund her fourth solo album, A Long and Precious Road. In her video message to potential backers, a tribute to Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues, she held up a card that said "I'm learning to ask for help." This vulnerable and honest phrase struck a chord for one particular music fan perusing Kickstarter projects on his rare off time -- Joss Whedon. Whedon, one of Hollywood's most prominent directors (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, The Avengers) loved Shawnee's music and her voice and backed the project, taking the first step towards what would become the unlikeliest of creative partnerships.

Sometimes it is just a song that brings artists together, as it was for the Hard Truth in the winter of 2015. At a singer-songwriter showcase in downtown Austin, Lauren was slotted to perform approximately one hour after the songwriting duo of Matthew and John. When the boys finished their set, they hung around and were quickly introduced to the vocal talents of Ms. Lauren Hunt. Matthew and John had previously shelved their classic-country duet, “The First Waltz” for over 2 years, and were optimistically searching for that “perfect fit” for such a powerful song. When they heard Lauren’s voice and incredible delivery, they knew that they had found the female lead for the part. The musical chemistry was easily apparent during their first rehearsal, and shortly thereafter, the Hard Truth was founded. As the band developed their signature sound, they continued to write original music, and “The First Waltz” led to the first album, titled, “Gentle Lies.” Under the artistic direction of producer, Gordy Quist, the Hard Truth recorded their debut release with musical support from the Band of Heathens over 8 days in May and August of 2015, at Tree Fort Studios in Austin, Texas. The debut album from the Hard Truth was released in June 2016, with a second album in the works for 2017.

Dave Scher grabbed onto an electric guitar at age 10 and has spent little of his waking time since without one. He’s been known to dabble in jazz, funk, or even a little country, but is best known for his beloved blues. And then there’s his voice—powerful and sensual enough to convey every emotion on the spectrum, a natural extension and perfect complement to his work on the guitar. Scher plays as a sideman for many well-known local acts, and his versatility and enormous talent enable him to up the ante and make any band sound incredible. But he mostly shines as a solo performer or when leading his own trio, belting out original material in addition to his own exciting, inventive arrangements of popular and classic covers of all genres.

This trio was formed during SXSW 2018, when drummer Judson Greene was running sound for guitarist Bob Flaco, and bassist Adam Burceagay. All 3 were performing in their prospective bands at different times during the showcase. "He didn't have a drummer so I just filled in to add to the sound, when he started singing I knew that it was more than a jam session. Instead of just adding to the sound, I added texture to the groove." A month later Greene ran into Burceagay at the Yellowjacket and he asked him if he wanted to sit in on a gig, the rest was history.

When Jeremy Pinnell released OH/KY in the summer of 2015 to stunned acclaim, it felt like an entire career compressed into one knock-out album. Hailed as a “ming-blowingly good” (Greg Vandy, KEXP) “tutorial on classic country music” (Popmatters), Pinnell’s debut immediately differentiated as authentic and unflinching. Dogged touring through Europe and the states and celebrated radio sessions followed, cementing Pinnell’s position as a no-fuss master of his craft.

Brandon Luedtke began writing and singing songs when he was twelve and first picked up a guitar. Called a “Texas Troubadour” he was born in Dallas and raised due east in the smallest county in the state, but has also resided in Nebraska for a few years and New York City. Luedtke has lived in Austin for the last several years, and during this time has played in bands like Roosevelt’s Goody Bag, Honey Baby, and Shane Smith and the Saints, or accompanying someone on guitar. He has been performing solo as well throughout this time and with greater frequency. His songs are centered around his acoustic guitar and voice. His style and approach to songwriting, in the words of No Depression, “carry the torch of the Texan troubadour forward” and are rooted in folksongs, some of which have survived centuries, as well as the great American songbook.
