Dad Boy is the dance/alt-pop project of Austin musician Janson Sommers. In 2020, after several years spent in the indie rock scene, Sommers returned to the laptop-based production style he started off with in high school. In 2021 he released his first EP as Dad Boy-alternative pop music split between hip hop head-nodders and up-tempo house music, all anchored by Sommers' intimate singing style. He enlisted fellow Austin producer Mason Ables (Flora & Fawna, SOBBRS) to help flesh out the shimmery layers of synthesizers and driving beats. In the summer of 2023 he began performing live as Dad Boy, enlisting long-time collaborator Ross Woods to bring his songs to life via MPC's, synths and guitars.
