CJ has been writing and singing his songs in and out of the public eye for more than 50 years. A self-taught multi-instrumentalist, he played in clubs around Austin in the late 1970s, as well as the Kerrville Folk Festival in 1976 and 1978. He enrolled in law school in 1981 and earned a law degree from the University of Texas in 1984. He practiced law for 37 years until his retirement in 2022. All along the way he continued to write and sing his songs. These days, CJ continues to write and record his songs, and has recently returned to live performance in selected venues.
