How to Join HAAM

HAAM Eligibility Criteria

You may be eligible to join HAAM if you:

  • Are a working musician, music teacher, or DJ

  • Live in one of the following Central Texas counties: Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, or Williamson

  • Have an annual household income at or below 400% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL)* 

*For 2025, a household of 1 would be $60,240 or less. The amount increases with each additional household member. If you’re self-employed, subtract expenses. Click here to view the 2025 FPL chart.

Proof of Musicianship:

You will be required to provide information about your recent music work from the last 12 months as a professional musician, music teacher, or DJ. This might include, but is not limited to:

  • links to singles/album releases on digital paid platforms (Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music, etc.)

  • band website with shows and/or music releases

  • social media posts referencing past/upcoming shows

  • school website (for music teachers only)

  • proof of income earned from music work (1099, check stub, Venmo/Zelle/CashApp, etc.)

Note: Any links provided should reference you by name and be publicly viewable (not social media profiles set to private).

We understand the life circumstances can impact musicians’ ability to perform and we take this into consideration when determining HAAM membership eligibility. Space is available in the HAAM application to share details if this applies to you. When in doubt, we encourage you to apply!

HAAM Musician Benefits

HAAM provides access to affordable healthcare for Austin’s low-income, working musicians, with a focus on prevention and wellness. This means:

  • Helping you access affordable health coverage, no matter your situation

  • Guiding you through the healthcare system toward both primary and specialty care

  • Offering you special HAAM Core Program benefits

Remember - HAAM is not insurance! HAAM helps musicians access insurance coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace (a.k.a. Healthcare.gov or “Obamacare”) and offers help paying for that coverage through the HAAM Premium Assistance Program. HAAM Programs can vary year to year and the extent of benefits available to HAAM members ranges and is dependent on a variety of factors including income, county of residence, and age.

These benefits include:

  • ALL members have access to dental, vision, hearing, wellness, and healthcare navigation services

  • Members may also have access to premium assistance programs to help lower the cost of monthly insurance premiums
