I had heard about health insurance for Austin musicians for years, and then investigated this when I moved back to Austin in 2006. I went in to the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians office and received an interview and got on the program. For only $17, I got to visit with the best doctor I've met in years - very sincere and caring, and paved the way (with her advice) for healthier living this past year. But, the best part was the dental side. I received phone calls every 3 months for appointments at the dental RV near Ruta Maya, where I received excellent care. One aspect of Austin that makes it such a great place to live and work is the astonishing quality and quantity of musicians who call Austin home. Unfortunately, after musicians’ household bills are paid from often-meager gig proceeds, there’s not much left for health care and many find themselves in dire straits. Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) provides access to affordable healthcare for Austin’s low-income, uninsured working musicians, with a focus on prevention and wellness. In six years HAAM has served over 2,700 musicians who say HAAM has changed their lives and saved their careers.


This year we are facing new and exciting challenges of expanding services and providing care to more musicians than ever.  HAAM needs your help keeping Austin's musicians healthy so that we continue to be known as the "Live Music Capital of the World."
